Luís Neves faces judicial inquiries amid transparency oversight concerns

Investigations into Portuguese Minister of Internal Administration Luís Neves are facing scrutiny regarding both judicial progress and administrative oversight. The Attorney General, Amadeu Guerra, stated that the Public Ministry is working to accelerate inquiries related to Neves but declined to provide a specific timeline for completion. Currently, there are three Public Ministry inquiries, one Court of Auditors process, and an administrative investigation involving the minister, many stemming from his tenure as head of the Judiciary Police.

One specific investigation involves a property in Odemira, where authorities are currently collecting data from the local municipality regarding licensing.

Simultaneously, the Transparency Entity (EpT) has admitted it cannot determine with certainty how many political office holders and high-ranking officials are required to submit mandatory income and asset declarations. The entity relies on information communicated by various organizations, which face no consequences for failing to report. The EpT is currently facing staffing shortages, operating with only six active senior technicians, complicating its ability to verify declarations and manage pending processes involving government members.
