Luís Neves faces calls for dismissal by Chega party
The political party Chega has submitted a parliamentary initiative to the Assembly of the Republic calling for the dismissal of the Minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves. The party argues that Neves's continued presence in office is unsustainable and threatens the prestige of national institutions.
The demand follows several controversies stemming from Neves's previous tenure as the National Director of the Judiciary Police (PJ) between 2018 and 2026. Key allegations include the failure to submit mandatory income and asset declarations to the Constitutional Court for multiple years, and irregularities identified in audits by the Court of Auditors regarding fuel contracts, travel, and credit card usage within the PJ.
Furthermore, Chega highlights 17 direct contract awards between the PJ and the company Construbarcelos, totaling approximately 2.3 million euros. The party also raises concerns regarding potential conflicts of interest involving works carried out by the same company on a family property in Odemira. Additionally, investigations have surfaced regarding Neves's use of a vehicle seized by the Judiciary Police, which he reportedly uses under a loan agreement.
In response to investigations by TVI/CNN, Neves has stated that the vehicle in question is a service vehicle provided under a legal loan arrangement.
