Luxembourg reports rising electric scooter accidents and speed violations

In Luxembourg, the rising popularity of electric micro-mobility vehicles (MVE) has led to a significant increase in traffic accidents. Data from STATEC indicates that 38 accidents involving injuries occurred in 2025, a sharp rise from 11 recorded in 2021.

The organization Sécurité Routière has expressed concern over the “worrying dynamics” of the situation, noting that local legislation is less stringent than in other European countries. In response, Luxembourg police have increased inspections of scooters and e-bikes to ensure safety.

During recent enforcement actions, authorities issued fines for riding in unauthorized areas and seized non-compliant vehicles. Police reported extreme cases of speed violations, with some modified or “unlocked” scooters reaching speeds between 36 km/h and 109 km/h, far exceeding the legal limit of 25 km/h.
