Luxury travel demand surges as premium cabin searches double

Global searches for first and business class flights rose 99% year-over-year during the first half of 2026, according to data from Trip.com. This surge in premium cabin interest occurs while general travel demand remains relatively stagnant.

Luxury travel appears to be undergoing a structural shift. Searches for five-star hotels increased by 57%, and premium travelers are staying longer, with average trips lasting 14 days or more. This trend is characterized by a heavier skew toward long-haul travel, which accounts for more than 40% of premium bookings in the second half of the year.

Analysts suggest this growth reflects a consumer shift toward prioritizing experiences over material goods. The data indicates a growing segment of travelers who are less price-sensitive and more focused on high-end service and specific business class products rather than economy or premium economy options.
