Álvaro Magalhães wins Ibero-American SM Prize for Children's Literature

Portuguese writer Álvaro Magalhães has been awarded the 22nd edition of the Ibero-American SM Prize for Children's and Youth Literature. The award was announced by the SM Educational Foundation, based in Madrid.

The jury praised Magalhães for his wide range of literary genres and his ability to engage young readers with philosophical complexity and fundamental themes such as love and death. The prize is organized in collaboration with several institutions, including the Regional Center for the Promotion of Books in Latin America and the Caribbean (CERLACL), the Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI), the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY), and the UNESCO office in Mexico, with support from the Guadalajara International Book Fair.

Magalhães, who has published approximately 80 works for children and young adults since the 1980s, described the award as a reward for his 42 years of dedication to children's literature and a tribute to Portuguese children's literature. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on December 1 during the Guadalajara International Book Fair.
