Álvaro Ramos rejects continuity of PLN leadership

Álvaro Ramos, a former presidential candidate for the National Liberation Party (PLN), has announced that he does not support the continuity of Miguel Guillén Salazar as the party's general secretary. Speaking during a National Assembly, Ramos noted that while Guillén made valuable contributions to territorial and sectoral reforms, the party's operational management has been deficient. Ramos suggested that Guillén should be assigned a different role within the organization rather than remaining in his current position.

Ramos also expressed opposition to the continued leadership of Ricardo Sancho Chavarría. He proposed a “partial remodeling” of the PLN's structures, advocating for a leadership team composed of individuals with internal legitimacy. Ramos stated his intention to present a new team proposal for the next National Assembly.

Regarding his own future, Ramos declined to confirm a presidential candidacy for 2030, stating he is currently focused on strengthening Costa Rican social fabric through communal, cooperative, and union sectors. He noted that maintaining a position outside of formal party leadership allows him greater flexibility to engage with various social groups.
