Costa Rica PLN leadership dispute
Overview
Internal friction has emerged within Costa Rica’s National Liberation Party (PLN) regarding its leadership structure. Former presidential candidate Álvaro Ramos publicly rejected the continuity of current Secretary General Miguel Guillén Salazar, citing deficient operational management. Ramos advocated for a “partial remodeling” of the party’s structures and proposed a new leadership team for the next National Assembly.
In response to this opposition, Miguel Guillén has announced his candidacy for reelection as Secretary General. Guillén, who cited his 37-year history with the party, intends to seek election during the National Assembly scheduled for October 10.
