Venezuelan sports: LVBP baseball and new LSB basketball league announced

Major updates have been announced for Venezuelan professional sports. The Liga Venezolana de Béisbol Profesional (LVBP) has released its inaugural week schedule for the 2026-2027 season, starting Monday, October 12. The opening game will feature Tiburones de La Guaira against Navegantes del Magallanes in Valencia.

In basketball, the new Liga Superior de Baloncesto Venezolano (LSB) is set to debut on September 25 at the Parque Naciones Unidas. The inaugural match will be a classic between Cocodrilos de Caracas and Trotamundos de Carabobo. The league features 10 teams divided into two conferences and is designed to showcase domestic talent.

In baseball personnel news, Miguel Cairo has been named manager for the Gigantes del Cibao in the Dominican Republic for the 2026-27 season. Additionally, the Bravos de Margarita and Caribes de Anzoátegui have completed a trade, with reliever Yeizo Campos moving to Bravos in exchange for infielder José Daniel Sánchez. Meanwhile, Venezuelan pitcher Wikelman González is expected to be called up to the MLB by the Miami Marlins.
