LVMH faces shifting Chinese luxury trends amid stock volatility
LVMH shares are facing a critical period after declining approximately 40% since the beginning of the year, currently trading near a 52-week low of €376. While the stock saw a minor 1.2% increase on Tuesday, market uncertainty remains high due to shifting consumer behaviors in China.
During the recent Golden Week, data indicated that Chinese consumers are moving away from high-priced monogrammed fashion, such as Louis Vuitton, in favor of more discreet luxury, high-quality jewelry, and emerging domestic premium brands. This shift is particularly notable among Gen Z consumers who are increasingly supporting local brands that blend traditional craftsmanship with regional culture.
Despite these challenges, Goldman Sachs has issued a buy recommendation for LVMH with a price target of €500. The investment bank anticipates a return to organic growth in the mid-single digits by 2027 as the core fashion and leather goods segment stabilizes. LVMH reported revenue of €38.6 billion in the first half of the year, representing a 2% organic increase.
