LVMH reports slower Q3 growth amid Chinese consumer slump

LVMH reported third-quarter organic revenue growth of 1%, totaling €18.5 billion, which fell short of analyst expectations. The results highlight a significant slowdown in the luxury sector, driven primarily by weakening consumer demand in China. Sales in the Asia region, excluding Japan, declined by 5%, with mainland China experiencing double-digit drops in some segments.

The company's core Fashion and Leather Goods division, which includes Louis Vuitton and Dior, saw organic sales fall by 5%, a sharper decline than the 1.8% anticipated by analysts. This downturn was exacerbated by a consumer boycott in China following a trademark dispute between Louis Vuitton and the local brand Molly Tea.

In contrast, other segments showed resilience. Selective Retailing grew by 8%, bolstered by Sephora's performance, and Watches and Jewelry saw 6% organic growth, supported by brands like Tiffany & Co. and Bulgari. The United States, Europe, and Japan reported positive growth, helping to offset the losses in Asia. LVMH's stock has declined by more than 40% since the start of the year as investors react to the prolonged economic uncertainty and shifting luxury market dynamics.
