Medical experts urge early lymphoma diagnosis via symptom awareness

Medical experts and health directorates are emphasizing the critical importance of early diagnosis for lymphoma, particularly in observance of World Lymphoma Awareness Day on September 15.

Key warning signs identified by hematology specialists include painless, persistent swelling in the neck, armpits, or groin areas; unexplained high fever; severe night sweats; and involuntary weight loss (specifically losing more than 10% of body weight within six months). Experts note that while these symptoms can be caused by infections or autoimmune diseases, they serve as vital indicators that require medical investigation.

Lymphoma is categorized into two main groups: Hodgkin lymphoma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. In Turkey, approximately 7,300 people are diagnosed with lymphoma annually. In Brazil, estimates for the 2026-2028 period project over 15,000 new cases annually. Early detection is highlighted as a decisive factor in increasing treatment success and improving patient outcomes.
