Michoacán celebrates artisanal heritage with major cultural events

Michoacán is preparing for several cultural events centered on its artisanal heritage. The city of Morelia will host the 25th Día del Artesano Michoacano on September 20, featuring over 4,000 creators from 64 communities. The celebration includes a parade on Avenida Madero, a recognition ceremony for 65 veteran artisans, and a traditional barter (trueque) where participants can exchange goods for handcrafted pieces.

In Lázaro Cárdenas, the Expo Artesanal Indígena 2026 was inaugurated at Plaza Las Américas to honor Indigenous women and their cultural contributions. Additionally, the San Juan Nuevo artisanal textile competition is marking its 40th anniversary on September 21, showcasing cotton and wood crafts.

To support these festivities, the Michoacán Secretary of Tourism is launching a promotion strategy in the neighboring states of Jalisco, Querétaro, and Guanajuato to attract visitors to the state's cultural offerings.
