Macaé seeks Brazil's first Blue City Coastal Seal certification

The municipality of Macaé officially joined the Selo Azul Cidades Costeiras process, a program that could make it the first Brazilian city to earn the Blue City coastal seal. The certification, created by the Federation of Commercial and Business Associations of the State of Rio de Janeiro (FACERJ), evaluates 20 environmental, economic and governance criteria to recognize locales that balance growth with marine resource protection.

The launch took place during the fourth edition of the Feira da Economia do Mar, where a Blue Governance Committee was established to steer the certification steps. Mayor Welberth Rezende said the initiative strengthens Macaé’s strategic position nationally and highlights sustainability as a key factor for attracting new investment.
