Macao and Hong Kong implement economic strategies for Greater Bay Area integration
The Macao Special Administrative Region government has established an industrial guidance fund to align with China’s ‘15th Five-Year Plan’. The fund aims to guide social capital toward emerging industries, supporting economic diversification and reducing the territory's long-term reliance on the gaming and tourism sectors. The fund may utilize direct investment or joint investment models to foster new productive forces in coordination with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Hengqin Deep Cooperation Zone.
In Hong Kong, real estate and economic trends are expected to be shaped by integration with the Greater Bay Area, its role as an international education hub, and its status as a wealth management center. Increased demand for residential properties and student housing is anticipated due to rising numbers of mainland students enrolling in Hong Kong via the DSE. Additionally, the growth of asset and wealth management services, driven by the regional tech boom and IPO activities, is expected to support commercial office rents and the luxury residential market.
