Macao National Museum of Culture to open first phase by 2029
The Macau government has announced plans for the Macao National Museum of Culture, a major project located on the waterfront east of the Macau Tower. As the first priority project within the planned Macau International Integrated Tourism and Culture Zone, the complex will have a gross construction area of approximately 100,000 square meters.
The museum will focus on exhibitions, relic restoration, research, and collection, while also providing cultural and leisure commercial spaces. The project is being developed in collaboration with the China National Museum to strengthen Macau’s role as a hub for cultural exchange between China and the West.
Ten architectural design teams have been invited to submit concept proposals, including seven international teams from countries such as Portugal, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands, alongside three local teams. The government expects to select a design concept within this year. The project will be constructed in two phases, with the first phase targeted for completion and public opening by the end of 2029.
