Macau National Museum of Culture development

Overview

The Macau government has initiated the development of the National Museum of Culture, a key project within the planned Macau International Integrated Tourism and Culture Zone. Located on the waterfront east of the Macau Tower, the complex is expected to cover approximately 100,000 square meters and will focus on exhibitions, relic restoration, research, and collection, while also offering cultural and leisure commercial spaces.

To facilitate the project, ten architectural design teams have been invited to submit proposals. This group includes three local firms, three from mainland China, and four international offices from Portugal, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands. The project is being developed in collaboration with the China National Museum to strengthen Macau’s role as a hub for cultural exchange between China and the West.

The government aims to select a design concept within the current year. Construction will be conducted in two phases, with the first phase targeted for completion and public opening by the end of 2029.
