Macau Customs seizes MOP850,000 in smuggled goods

Macau Customs Service intercepted 18 smuggling cases during a six-day operation from August 29 to September 3. Authorities seized goods with an estimated market value of approximately MOP850,000, including 274,000 cigarettes, 134,000 e-cigarettes, cosmetics, medicines, used mobile phones, and roughly 14 kilograms of silver granules.

The operation took place at Macau International Airport, the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge (HZMB) port, and the Border Gate checkpoint. Eighteen individuals, aged between 20 and 67, were prosecuted under the Foreign Trade Law. Eleven suspects are also under investigation for potential violations of smoking regulations.

Customs reported that parallel traders are increasingly attempting to conceal silver granules within everyday items to evade detection. Officers also noted instances of individuals attempting to smuggle mobile phones and silver by hiding them on their bodies or in clothing and shoes.
