Macau invites international architects for new National Museum of Culture
A Portuguese architecture firm is among ten international teams invited to submit design proposals for the future National Museum of Culture in Macau. The selection process includes three local firms and three from mainland China, alongside three other international offices from Switzerland, England, and the Netherlands.
Leong Wai Man, president of the Macau Cultural Affairs Bureau, stated that the museum is a core project for the Integrated International Tourism and Culture Zone. The initiative aims to drive cultural development, diversify the local economy, and strengthen cultural exchange between China and the West. The first phase of the project is expected to conclude by 2029. The designs are expected to integrate Chinese cultural elements with modern architectural language, balancing artistic value with sustainability and international aesthetic standards.
