Macau reports 21.6 billion pataca budget surplus amid rising gaming revenues
Macau has reported a significant surge in its public accounts, recording a surplus of 21.6 billion patacas during the first nine months of 2026. This figure exceeds the total surplus recorded for the entire year of 2025 and represents a 30.2 percent increase compared to the same period last year. The financial growth was primarily driven by a 5.9 percent rise in gaming tax revenues, which reached 74.6 billion patacas and accounted for 83 percent of all public revenue.
Alongside this fiscal growth, the Financial Intelligence Office reported a 7.9 percent increase in suspicious transactions within Macau's casinos during the same nine-month period. A total of 2,968 reports of potential money laundering or terrorism financing were submitted by the region's six casino operators. The Financial Intelligence Office noted that the rise in total suspicious transaction reports was largely due to increased reporting from the gaming sector.
