Macau to allow foreign investment via new economic diversification fund
The Macau government has confirmed that its new 11 billion pataca (approximately 1.17 billion euro) Government Guidance Fund will be open to investing in both local and foreign companies. The fund, established in late February to diversify the region's economy, aims to encourage local employment and the development of qualified professionals.
Secretary for Administration and Justice Wong Sio Chak stated that investments will be directed toward entities that contribute to Macau's development, noting that public investment should help attract international talent. This initiative aligns with the third Five-Year Economic Development Plan, which includes goals to attract skilled workers from Lusophone countries.
The Macau Investment and Management Company (MIMC) has been tasked with managing the fund. MIMC administrator António Tam Chi Neng noted that companies receiving public investment will be required to contribute to Macau's economic development; failure to meet these contractual obligations may trigger a mandatory withdrawal of public funds.
