Macedonia and Croatia deepen transport and trade ties

North Macedonia and Croatia have entered a new phase of economic, transport and infrastructure cooperation following the signing of a strategic partnership agreement. Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Aleksandar Nikoloski said the focus will be on constructing high‑speed rail on the Pan‑European Corridor 10, with each country planning investments of roughly €2 billion for their respective segments. The deal aims to boost bilateral trade, which currently stands at about $300 million, with a target of reaching $400 million, and to improve logistics by simplifying visa procedures for Macedonian transport operators.

Nikoloski highlighted the long‑standing political alignment between the VMRO‑DPMNE and HDZ parties, both members of the European People’s Party, which underpins the partnership. He also noted that Croatia was among the first EU states to facilitate visa access for Macedonian truck drivers, easing their entry into the European market. The cooperation is expected to generate new tourist and investment opportunities and strengthen regional connectivity across the Balkans.
