Macedonia Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski Faces Calls to Resign Over Violence Surge
Opposition leader Kaija Shkova of the SDSM demanded the immediate resignation of Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski, accusing the police of systemic failure. She cited a string of killings, drug trafficking and unchecked domestic abuse, including the recent murder of a 37‑year‑old woman in Skopje that resembles a femicide, the killing of a young woman and child despite 12 prior abuse reports, and a mass killing of 63 people in Kočani. Shkova warned that five tonnes of drugs are crossing the border without control and alleged the police are politicised to protect the VMRO‑DPM party and suppress opposition. She called the security system “completely broken” and said citizens are left to fend for themselves, urging Toshkovski to step down immediately.
