Macedonia interior ministry accused of systemic femicide failures

Levica MP Borislav Krmov lodged an inter‑pellation against Interior Minister Panche Toskovski, accusing the ministry of systematic non‑action in cases of violence against women. Krmov highlighted the harassment campaign targeting Levica councillor Evgenija Stankovska, a double murder and subsequent suicide in Veles where the perpetrator had previously been reported for abuse, and the case of Ivana Jovanovska and her daughter in which 39 police officers failed to intervene. He also mentioned an incident where 11 officers did not respond to a similar threat.

Krmov argued that the institutions lack early‑risk‑assessment mechanisms and only act after tragedies occur, stating that “the point is not to arrest perpetrators after a murder, but to prevent the murder”. He called the repeated lack of response a systemic failure rather than isolated incidents.
