North Macedonia records surge in family‑violence arrests within 24 hours

Police in North Macedonia reported nine incidents of domestic violence in a 24‑hour period on 12 July 2026, leading to six arrests and several detentions pending investigation. Arrests included a 26‑year‑old in Valandovo for assaulting his 51‑year‑old father, an 18‑year‑old in Radoviš for threatening his mother, and a 30‑year‑old in Štip for alleged assault on his partner. Additional detentions involved a 38‑year‑old in Kavadarci, a 59‑year‑old in Ohrid and others across Skopje, Kumanovo, Bitola and other municipalities. Prosecutors announced that formal charges will be filed after documentation is completed. The Public Prosecutor’s Office also opened an investigative case against a 30‑year‑old man accused of stabbing his father to death after a family dispute, ordering a psychiatric assessment and pre‑trial detention. Authorities indicated that the incidents will prompt further legal and protective measures for victims.
