Macedonia prosecutors seek protective orders for sons accused of violent attacks on their mothers

The Public Prosecutor's Office in Skopje has filed criminal proceedings against two men for causing bodily injury to their own mothers. On July 25, a 34‑year‑old son assaulted his mother, demanding money, beating her with a bat, pulling her hair, and threatening daily beatings if she did not comply.

In a separate incident, a 24‑year‑old resident of Petrovac physically attacked his mother, striking her with a bat, then pulling her arm into a car door and driving away, leaving her arm trapped until he released her. The prosecutor has proposed pre‑trial detention for the older suspect and, for the younger, restrictions including a ban on leaving his residence, regular reporting to the court, and a prohibition on any contact with the victim.

Both cases highlight ongoing concerns about domestic violence in North Macedonia and the legal response aimed at preventing further abuse.
