Macedonia reports rise in foreign tourists and opens Expo 2027 company invitations

North Macedonia recorded a 4.9% increase in foreign visitors during the first five months of 2026, with overnight stays up 3.3% according to the State Statistical Office. French tourists highlighted the country’s cuisine, wine and hospitality, while overall visitors were 81% foreign and 19% domestic; total overnight stays exceeded 236,000, 76% of which were by foreign guests.

The government also announced that Macedonian companies may apply by 1 September to take part in Expo 2027 in Belgrade. The pavilion will cover 648 sqm and showcase music, wine, tourism, gastronomy, nature, culture and art under the slogan “All rhythms of the sun”. Participation is free, though travel and accommodation costs are the responsibility of the firms. Goran Gjorgievski, president of the Union of Chambers of Commerce, urged companies to apply, noting the opportunity for networking and joint ventures.
