Serbia growth, wages, Expo 2027 progress, inflation

Overview

By mid-2026, Serbia’s average net salary remained above €1,000, reaching €1,038 in June, while inflation held at 2.7% YoY. The fiscal plan targets a deficit near 3% of GDP, despite IMF warnings of a temporary rise to 3.5% in 2026. Expo 2027 preparations continue with costs estimated at €3.4 billion. In Belgrade, the government is reshaping the riverfront by converting a historic 19th-century railway bridge into a pedestrian and cyclist crossing featuring 19 green “kubus” zones.

Logistical and operational preparations have intensified. To support the exhibition, which expects four million visitors, contracts have been awarded for the operation of the 1,500-unit Expo Village and for managing vehicle and goods flows at the Surčin site via Intereuropa-Logističke Usluge. Recent procurement efforts include a contract exceeding 401 million dinars for laundry and dry cleaning services. Additionally, Expo 2027 Belgrade has completed a procurement process for maintenance machinery, awarding 18 contracts totaling 265,195,876 dinars (excluding VAT). This includes 191 pieces of equipment such as water tankers, municipal tractors, and mowers. Director Danilo Jerinić noted that this machinery will serve as part of the exhibition’s legacy for the City of Belgrade after the event concludes.

Promotional outreach continues through the “Ekspo Karavan” program. A recent installment, the Games Pavilion, was organized at the Palić lakeside promenade to provide a preview of the Expo atmosphere through cultural, natural, and sporting demonstrations. Organizers have also launched a procurement process to train approximately 20,000 volunteers and are negotiating the participation of NASA. The Expo is scheduled to run from May 15 to August 15, 2027.
