Overview

By mid‑2026 Serbia’s average net salary topped €1,000, reaching €1,036 in March and €1,032 by mid‑year, narrowing the regional gap. The government kept strong backing for Expo 2027, reallocating 1.15 bn dinars to water works, finalising safety‑equipment contracts and awarding over €450 m (52.87 bn dinars) in contracts in July, including a 1.567 bn‑dinar deal for a 20 000 m² exhibition space. Slovenia confirmed a €3.3 m pavilion on green transition; the national pavilion near the Surčin stadium stays on track for a March 2027 opening, with organisers now expecting participation from more than 130 countries under the theme "Play for humanity: sport and music for all".

The Expo 2027 caravan continued its tour, stopping in Vranje and Bujanovac. In Vranje officials highlighted workshops, music, sport and the “Serbian House” pavilion; Bujanovac presented the same programme under the theme “More voices, common rhythm”, emphasizing regional diversity and tourism potential.

In response to public debate over costs, transparency, corruption risks and environmental impact, the Expo company launched two fact‑checking portals – EXPO MYTH CHECK and "Mitovi i činjenice" – to provide verified information. The activist network EXPOsed criticised the project’s spending and called for independent monitoring.
