Macedonia to open 10 km of complex Ohrid‑Kichevo highway segment
Deputy prime minister and transport minister Aleksandar Nikoloski said that two protective galleries on the Ohrid–Kichevo highway are fully completed and work on a third gallery is intensive. In the next few months the most complex 10 km of the route – which includes the longest tunnels in Macedonia (one about 2 km, the other 2.1 km) and several galleries – will be opened for traffic.
The highway already carries traffic on 34 km of its length. Eight galleries are being built on the segment, while crews also stabilise the terrain, finish bridges and install the two tunnel tubes. The project, once considered abandoned, has accelerated and is now in its final phase. The whole Ohrid–Kichevo motorway is slated for completion by the first quarter of 2027, but the newly opened 10 km will markedly improve connectivity between the towns of Ohrid and Kičevo.
