Macedonian Finance Minister Dimitrieska‑Koçoska Announces Higher Capital Spending in 2026 Budget
Finance Minister Bujar Dimitrieska‑Koçoska said the 2026 budget rebalancing will direct additional funds to capital‑investment projects, fulfil obligations under collective agreements and support development policies that directly affect citizens' quality of life. She stressed that the ministry must consider real needs of people and institutions, not only deficit figures, and described capital spending as an investment that boosts GDP and improves long‑term living standards.
The increase in capital expenditure is attributed to better project implementation and greater institutional readiness. Revenue collection is proceeding as expected, with no significant deviations from projections. The minister noted that the deficit should be assessed as a percentage of GDP for meaningful year‑on‑year comparison, recalling that in 2020 the deficit was 8 % of GDP. Public‑debt management remains cautious, highlighted by a successful eurobond issuance at a historic low margin that maintains international market confidence.
