North Macedonia builds 18 km of access roads to link villages to Ohrid‑Kichevo highway
The reconstruction of the local Mješšta–Volino road in Debarca municipality has been completed as part of the Transport Ministry’s programme to connect local roads. Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Aleksandar Nikoloski inspected the works together with Prime Minister Christian Miccovski and the mayor of Debarca, highlighting the project’s role in improving regional connectivity.
The government is now constructing a total of 18 km of parallel access roads along the Ohrid‑Kichevo highway. These roads will provide linkages for villages in the Struga, Debarca and Ohrid areas that were previously cut off by the main highway. UNESCO approval has been secured for the Preska‑Ohrid section, and the project benefits from a World Bank line of financing. Nikoloski said the works “will give all villages in Struga, Debarca and Ohrid access to the highway and significantly improve the quality of life for residents.”
