Macedonia's 2026 Budget Rebalance Prioritizes Health, Education, Infrastructure

The 2026 budget rebalancing in North Macedonia redirects additional fiscal space toward sectors that directly affect citizens' living standards and economic development. The government earmarks the largest share for capital investments, increasing them by 5.8 billion denars (14.5 %). Funds will support roads, railways, water and sewage networks, schools, kindergartens, health facilities and municipal projects.

Social transfers receive an extra 2.234 billion denars, while health spending rises by 1.811 billion denars to improve public health services. Education gains a further 1 billion denars for school conditions, student support and human‑capital investment. Agriculture is allocated an additional 1.331 billion denars for the Agency for Financial Support in Agriculture and about 300 million denars for the Ministry of Agriculture, focusing on water management and production stability. Additional resources are set aside for rail transport, maternity illness benefits, the “My VAT” measure and student standards. The rebalancing raises the budget deficit to 4.1 % of GDP, but the government projects that the targeted spending will foster economic growth, improve infrastructure and raise the quality of public services.
