Macedonia's Agriculture Inspectorate logs 22,000 inspections, cites shortage
In the first half of 2026 the State Inspectorate for Agriculture (DIZ) in North Macedonia carried out roughly 22,000 field inspections. Within the crop‑buy‑out program the inspectorate issued 409 decisions, including orders, warnings and obligations.
Director Ivica Angelovski told a press conference that the agency continues to operate on‑site throughout the year, checking that buy‑out companies meet technical requirements, have appropriate facilities and equipment, use verified measuring tools and comply with agricultural law. He warned that the inspectorate faces a serious staffing shortfall as a wave of inspectors retire, and that recruiting new personnel will be a priority.
Angelovski also noted that DIZ is responsible for phytosanitary certification of export shipments, issuing documents that confirm the health of Macedonian agricultural products destined for foreign markets.
