Maceió Civil Defense manages residential structural risk assessments

In Maceió, the Municipal Civil Defense is responsible for evaluating structural risks in residential properties. Technical decisions regarding the evacuation of homes are made exclusively by Civil Defense engineers following rigorous inspections.

Not all structural issues, such as cracks or leaks, require immediate evacuation. Depending on the findings, authorities may recommend technical repairs, periodic monitoring, or preventive actions. However, total or partial interdiction is mandated when there is a direct threat to life, such as risks of collapse, landslides, soil erosion, or severe structural instability. In cases of interdiction, the Civil Defense Social Directorate provides support to affected families.
