Macerata launches influenza vaccination campaign for seniors
The influenza vaccination campaign is set to begin this Monday in the Ast of Macerata, involving general practitioners, pediatricians, local health districts, hospitals, and participating pharmacies. The regional program has allocated 375,100 doses of the vaccine, with over 70,000 doses specifically designated for the Macerata area.
A key change this season is the recommendation of enhanced vaccines for individuals aged 60 and older, extending the priority group from the previous threshold of 65 and older.
Health officials noted a trend of low uptake in the region; during the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 campaigns, only 46% of those over 65 in the Ast of Macerata were vaccinated. In the Macerata province, influenza cases typically fluctuate between 27,000 and 30,000 annually, representing approximately 10% of the resident population.
