Macerata officials clash over landfill protest in Pieve Torina

Tensions have risen in the Macerata province following a protest by the No Discarica Montefano Committee in Pieve Torina regarding the potential location of a new landfill. Alessandro Gentilucci, President of the Province of Macerata, called for community unity, stating that the protest was legitimate but arguing that Pieve Torina was an inappropriate venue given the town's ongoing recovery from the 2016 earthquake.

Gentilucci criticized attempts to use the issue for political purposes and noted that Pieve Torina holds minimal weight in the ATA assembly decisions. In response to the demonstration, Angela Barbieri, the Mayor of Montefano, challenged Gentilucci's claims regarding a photograph shown to protesters. Barbieri asserted that the photo, which depicted her with other administrators, was taken during a dinner on May 4, contradicting the President's claim that it occurred more recently in connection to discussions about landfill sites.
