MacGregor wins cargo handling order for six LNG containerships

MacGregor has secured a contract to provide cargo handling solutions for six 1,700 TEU dual-fuel LNG-powered containerships. The vessels are being constructed by Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) in India for the international carrier CMA CGM.

The scope of the order includes the design, key components, steel structures, and fabrication of hatch covers, as well as solutions for cell guides, deck stanchions, and fixed container fittings. Deliveries for the new vessels are scheduled to take place between 2029 and 2031.

This project marks a significant milestone for the Indian maritime industry, as CMA CGM will be the first major international carrier to commission LNG-powered vessels from an Indian shipyard. The vessels are designed to run on LNG and are prepared for future low-carbon fuels, supporting CMA CGM’s goal of reaching Net Zero Carbon by 2050. The agreement was coordinated with the support of VARYA Tech Private Limited, MacGregor’s long-term agent in India.
