Machalí, Chile Advances Rural Water Supply Project

The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) in Chile’s O’Higgins region is overseeing a major upgrade of the San Joaquín de los Mayos rural water system in the south‑uphill sector of Machalí. The works, 46% complete, include a new 200‑cubic‑metre concrete‑reinforced storage tank raised 25 m, replacement of 5.3 km of distribution pipes, a chlorination station, system automation and electrical upgrades. The project, costing over 2.379 billion Chilean pesos and built by COK Ingeniería y Construcción, will benefit more than 1,011 residents and 2,323 students across four schools, including La Cruz, Trinity College, San Francisco de Machalí and the Rural School of San Joaquín de los Mayos. Additional upgrades cover 326 water connections, reconnection of 153 taps and the installation of new faucets. The improvements aim to strengthen water continuity and quality for families, schools, sports complexes and community groups. The works are scheduled for a 450‑day execution period, expected to finish within the next year.
