Machel Montano exhibition opens at Brooklyn Public Library

The Brooklyn Public Library is hosting a new exhibition titled ‘Journey of a Soca King: The Exhibition’ to celebrate the career of soca artist Machel Montano. Presented in partnership with the Machel Montano Foundation for Greatness, the exhibition opens at the Central Library on August 22 and runs through September 12.

The showcase features a curated collection of artifacts from Montano’s four-decade career, including costumes, trophies, and vinyl records. Visitors can also utilize a vinyl listening station to hear selections from his catalog. The exhibition is timed to coincide with the lead-up to the West Indian American Day Carnival in Brooklyn.

Montano, a native of Trinidad and Tobago, is a highly decorated artist holding 12 Road March titles and several other musical honors. The event also includes programming at various library branches and a documentary film projection on the library’s facade scheduled for September 3.
