macOS users face higher rates of cyberattacks than Windows users

Recent security data indicates that macOS users are facing a higher frequency of cyber threats compared to Windows users, challenging the long-held perception that Apple computers are inherently immune to malware.

According to Kaspersky, approximately 12% of macOS users reported malware infections in the last year, compared to 9% of Windows users. The data shows that macOS users are more susceptible to phishing (12% vs 9%), investment scams (16% vs 13%), and personal data theft (12% vs 7%).

Experts suggest this trend is driven by the growing market share of Apple devices in both home and corporate environments, making them more profitable targets for cybercriminals. Furthermore, a sense of false security among Mac users appears to contribute to the risk; only 51% of Mac users avoid suspicious links, compared to 62% of PC users. Additionally, only 35% of Mac owners install specific security tools, trailing the 42% reported for Windows users.
