Macy's burglar arrested after falling from ceiling in Washington

A man identified as 21-year-old Gabriel Hideo was arrested following a dramatic incident at a Macy's department store in Vancouver, Washington, on September 30.

Store employees alerted authorities after observing a man crawling through the ceiling space above the second floor. The intruder caused damage to ceiling tiles, light fixtures, and electrical wiring. In response, police evacuated the second floor and attempted to negotiate with the suspect for over an hour.

To prevent injury, officers placed a mattress on the floor and extended a ladder into the ceiling space. According to the Vancouver Police Department, Hideo eventually stepped onto the ladder but then attempted to climb back into the ceiling. Officers pulled on the ladder to prevent his ascent, causing him to fall onto the mattress. Hideo attempted to flee on foot following the fall but was apprehended by police. He was subsequently taken to the Clark County Jail facing felony charges for burglary and malicious mischief.
