Madagascar and Senegal take steps to ease recent power outages

In Antsiranana, Madagascar, the electricity provider Enelec announced emergency measures to address prolonged blackouts that have disrupted daily life and the local economy. The company is deploying a 4 MW HFO generator, launching the second phase of a solar project that will add 8 MW to the existing 2 MW, and continuing work on a wind park slated for initial operation by mid‑September 2026.

Separately, Senegal’s national utility Senelec reported a temporary interruption of electricity supply after a fire broke out near the Hann sub‑station. The outage affected several neighborhoods, and the company is mobilising technical teams to restore service while urging customers to stay safe.

Both utilities are confronting infrastructure challenges that have resulted in power cuts, prompting rapid deployment of additional generation capacity and emergency response efforts.
