Madagascar renews biodiversity and agricultural research partnerships

In Madagascar, research and training partnership frameworks have renewed their commitment for an additional five years. The “Forests and Biodiversity” partnership, active for 12 years, focuses on balancing forest conservation with biodiversity valorization. It has supported the implementation of the GELOSE law for community-led natural resource management and the development of wood-energy plantations to reduce pressure on natural forests.

Additionally, the “Highland Production Systems and Sustainability” (SPAD) partnership, which has operated for 20 years, aims to support sustainable development for family farms in the Central Highlands and Mid-West regions. Its research initiatives include developing adapted rain-fed rice varieties and studying soil microorganisms to improve agricultural productivity and ecosystem services.
