Madeira holds New 7 Wonders final, Azores launches youth food‑media project

On Saturday the Autonomous Region of Madeira broadcast the regional final of the "Novas 7 Maravilhas de Portugal" from the Funchal waterfront. The four‑hour live programme, presented by Maria Cerqueira Gomes, featured musical acts, reports on 21 heritage candidates across seven categories and real‑time public voting. The shortlisted sites will advance to the national stage of the competition, with results audited by PwC and a deadline at the end of August.

In the Azores, the Ponta Delgada Capital Portuguesa da Cultura (PDL 2026) organised a youth‑focused media initiative at the Mercado da Graça. Children aged six to twelve were invited to become "mini‑reporters", audio‑visual builders, cartographers and puppeteers, creating interviews and a puppet theatre that highlight daily food origins. The project forms part of a broader July cultural programme that also includes concerts, performances and literary events across the archipelago.
