Madeira seeks to strengthen economic ties with Belgium

Madeira is seeking to strengthen economic ties and cooperation with Belgium. During a meeting between Regional Secretary for the Economy José Manuel Rodrigues and the Belgian Ambassador to Portugal, Bart Lammens, discussions focused on regional economic diversification, innovation, and the blue economy.

To facilitate these connections, the Luso-Belgian Chamber of Commerce, based in Brussels, will organize a business mission to Madeira on October 7, 8, and 9. The ambassador identified tourism, the digital sector, and the blue economy as key areas for concrete opportunities.

In a separate development regarding regional support, a delegation from the European Parliament's Committee on Regional Development recently visited Madeira. The mission aimed to observe the impact of European investment on local projects in energy, housing, transport, and research, while discussing the importance of specific measures for outermost regions to mitigate costs associated with insularity.
