Madeira international economic cooperation efforts

Overview

Madeira is pursuing international economic cooperation and diversification through various diplomatic channels.

In late September, regional officials met with the Belgian Ambassador to Portugal to discuss strengthening ties in the digital sector, tourism, and the ‘blue economy’. To support these efforts, the Luso-Belgian Chamber of Commerce scheduled a business mission to the region for early October. Additionally, the European Parliament's Committee on Regional Development visited to assess the impact of European investment on local infrastructure and research.

By mid-October, efforts expanded to include discussions with the Portuguese Embassy in Caracas, Venezuela. These talks focused on economic and educational cooperation, municipal twinning, and engagement with the diaspora. A business mission involving Madeiran technology and construction companies is being prepared to explore entrepreneurial opportunities in Venezuela.
