Madeira weather causes sports postponements and trail closures

Adverse weather conditions in Madeira are disrupting both sporting events and outdoor activities. Several football matches involving Madeiran teams have been postponed due to fog, low visibility, and flight cancellations. These include matches for the Campeonato de Portugal, the II Divisão, and the Sub-17 and female junior leagues.

Additionally, the Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation (IFCN) has ordered the closure of all classified hiking trails for Sunday, November 8, due to the weather forecast. Despite the closure, the SIMplifica portal continues to allow reservations and payments for that date, leading to confusion among tourists. Under existing regulations, users may be entitled to reschedule or receive a full refund if cancellations are deemed attributable to the IFCN.
