Madeline Daly pleads guilty to murdering 11-month-old son

Madeline Veronique Daly, 36, has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder for the fatal shooting of her 11-month-old son, Basil Stoner. The incident occurred in December 2025 inside a recreational vehicle near Silver City, New Mexico.

Daly had taken the infant from Wyoming to New Mexico in violation of a court order that granted emergency custody to the child's father, Jake Stoner. Law enforcement located Daly in Grant County after a background check for a local job application revealed an active kidnapping warrant from Wyoming.

During the confrontation, Daly fled into an RV. While officers waited for a search warrant, a gunshot was heard from inside the vehicle. Police discovered the infant had been shot in the face with a 9mm handgun. Daly reportedly told investigators that the act was ‘worth it’ to ensure the father and his relatives would never see the child again.

Under a plea agreement in the Sixth Judicial District Court, Daly faces life in prison and will be eligible for parole after serving 30 years. A child abuse charge was dismissed as part of the deal.
