Madhya Pradesh braces for heavy monsoon rains

The Indian Meteorological Department reports that the southwest monsoon has returned strongly to Madhya Pradesh, creating conditions for widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next 24–48 hours. Moisture from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, combined with low pressure and persistent southwest winds, has produced light to moderate rain across many districts, with heavier showers already recorded in Bhopal, Narmadapuram, Jabalpur, Sagar, Rewa, Shahdol, Mandla, Dindori, Chhindwara, and Betul.

Temperatures across the state remain between 22 °C and 26 °C. Winds are generally 10–20 km/h, with gusts up to 30–40 km/h in some areas. The department cautions that several districts in both western and eastern Madhya Pradesh may experience intense downpours, potentially leading to localized flooding and disruptions.
