Madhya Pradesh issues heavy rain alerts and school closures
Heavy rainfall warnings have been issued across multiple districts in Madhya Pradesh as the monsoon system shifts toward the northern and central regions of the state. The meteorological department has issued an orange alert for extremely heavy rainfall in Sheopur and Shivpuri, while approximately 17 to 19 other districts, including Gwalior, Morena, Bhind, Datia, and Sagar, are under heavy rain warnings.
Due to the risk of flooding and for student safety, local administrations have ordered the closure of various educational institutions and Anganwadi centers. In Sheopur, Shivpuri, and Guna, schools from nursery to grade 12 are closed. Morena has closed all schools and centers, while Bhind and Gwalior have suspended classes for students from nursery to grade 8. Raisen has also ordered the closure of all government and private schools.
Statewide rainfall data shows that Madhya Pradesh has recorded approximately 762.7 mm (about 30 inches) of rain so far this season, which is roughly 7 percent below the normal average of 816 mm. While eastern regions like Jabalpur, Rewa, and Sagar have seen rainfall levels exceed the norm by 3 percent due to recent heavy downpours, western parts of the state remain approximately 15 percent below average.
