Madhya Pradesh reports 6% monsoon rainfall deficit

Madhya Pradesh has recorded 31.1 to 31.2 inches of rainfall so far this monsoon season, which is approximately 6% below the expected average of 33.1 to 33.3 inches. While the state has seen significant precipitation in certain areas, a deficit remains in 31 districts.

Regional variations are distinct: eastern Madhya Pradesh has seen rainfall levels slightly above normal, whereas western regions, including the Indore-Ujjain division, are experiencing a deficit of up to 55% in some districts. Mauganj has recorded the highest rainfall at approximately 53 inches, while Alirajpur has recorded the lowest at 13.6 inches.

Heavy rainfall is not expected until at least September 12, following a brief period of light to moderate rain or cloudy conditions. A new low-pressure system expected to activate in the Bay of Bengal around September 9-10 is predicted to influence the weather, potentially bringing heavy rain to districts such as Chhatarpur, Panna, Damoh, and Katni starting mid-month.
